Marine Group Boat Works Builds Second State-Of-The-Art Facility In Los Cabos

(San Jose del Cabo, Mexico, July 21, 2009): Marine Group Boat Works, a boat and superyacht refit and repair facility located along the San Diego Bay, broke ground for the construction of its newest boatyard, Marine Group Boat Works de Los Cabos located in Puerto Los Cabos Marina in San Jose. The boatyard in Los Cabos will be an extension of Marine Group’s commitment to providing high-quality, full-service boat repair with the added element of a modernized drystack storage system.

“Since we renovated our facility back in 2007, it was becoming harder and harder to manage the number of incoming customers at the San Diego location,” said Todd Roberts, vice president of Marine Group Boat Works. “When we decided to expand, we looked at where the majority of our customer base was coming from, the types of inquiries we were getting, and the answers pointed us to Mexico.”

The new Cabo facility covers over 200,000 square feet of land and water. It will encompass the same amenities and state-of-the-art tools and technology that have been successful for the San Diego boatyard. This includes:

  • 150-ton travelift, customized with the capacity to haul boats up to 125 feet with an amazing beam capacity of 28 feet — specially designed to reduce hull stress on vessels during the lifting process. This technology is a feat other boatyards in the area simply are not capable of.
  • On-site workshops
  • Office space

Also highly anticipated and in great demand is a world-class drystack storage system. This drystack storage system can accommodate 100 boats stacked three levels high, allowing owners of boats up to 33 feet in length to lower maintenance and insurance costs by storing them in enclosed shelving systems. Within 15 minutes, a giant forklift can pull a boat, launch it, and have it waiting for its owner, eliminating common inconveniences boat owners face.

With the drystack storage system available early 2010, Marine Group Boat Works de Los Cabos will offer a one-of-a-kind concierge service that consists of three packages ranging from a basic haul, storage and launch package to a premium package that includes complete maintenance, provisioning, fueling and more.

The unique capabilities of the new boatyard make it stand out as being one of the most innovative in Mexico. With drystack storage reservations already filling up, the demand offers a glimpse at the draw Marine Group Boat Works de Los Cabos will have on San Jose del Cabo and the surrounding area economy.
