Marine Group Boat Works Finalist for BBB Torch Award for Marketplace Ethics and Workboat Environmental Award

Southern California Boat and Superyacht Repair Facility recognized For Ethical Business Practices and Comprehensive Environmental Program

(Chula Vista, Calif., December 9, 2009): Marine Group Boat Works, a boat and superyacht repair facility located along the San Diego Bay, was recognized by the San Diego Better Business Bureau’s (BBB) Torch Award for Marketplace Ethics for its outstanding business practices and by the Workboat Environmental Award for its contribution to greening the environment.

“It’s a natural practice to treat things you deem valuable with the utmost care and respect whether it’s at home, in the workplace or regarding the environment,” said Todd Roberts, vice president of Marine Group Boat Works. “It’s inspiring to be recognized for implementing such a simple philosophy.”

The BBB Torch Award acknowledges companies that meet exceptional business standards and contribute to maintaining a fair and honorable marketplace. During the process of choosing recipients for the award, the BBB examines four areas: management practices, community relations, communications and marketing practices, and industry reputation. Seven companies and one non-profit organization were awarded winners of the award and Marine Group Boat Works was among eleven other finalists announced at the Town and Country Resort and Hotel in Mission Valley.

While the BBB examines the overall importance of ethical business practices, the Workboat Environmental Award hones in on organizations that exemplify innovative and effective environmental initiatives in daily business operations. Award recipients are chosen based on its sustainable practices; innovation towards environmental stewardship and compliance with environmental regulations and requirements.

To apply for the Workboat Environmental Award, Marine Group Boat Works submitted an essay talking about its curbed storm drain system where 100% runoff is captured in a 60,000-gallon storage tank and the 665-Travelift which allows them to lift vessels onto land and perform work away from the water to avoid pollutants from entering the bay. Projects that require sandblasting/painting are shrink-wrapped to prevent debris from entering the air. The company also has a recycling program that recycles metals, plastics, cardboard and paper. In addition, Marine Group Boat Works participates in bay clean-ups, copper-free bottom paint services and other various environmental programs throughout the community.
