New Coveralls Uniform Policy
Uniform Policy and Guide for MGBW Yard Employees
Marine Group Boat Works (MGBW) delivers the highest quality vessel repair and construction services in the maritime industry. Uniforms play an important role in portraying ourselves as a professional team with a cohesive appearance. Please help us maintain a safe working environment and promote the professional appearance of our company.
If you are uncertain whether an item of clothing is appropriate, please see our HR Manager or Todd Roberts for guidance.
If clothing fails to meet these standards, as determined by the employee’s supervisor and HR staff, the employee will be asked not to wear the inappropriate item to work again. If the problem persists, the employee may be sent home to change clothes and will receive a verbal or written warning. Progressive disciplinary action will be applied if dress code violations continue.
- All craft employees must wear MGBW provided coveralls, while on MGBW premises or offsite work assignments.
- Newly hired employees may wear MGBW provided T-Shirts, in the applicable department color, until the MGBW provided coveralls are obtained.
- For safety reasons, coveralls must be zipped, may not be tied at the waist, and must be worn as intended.
- Employees in the following departments are required to wear cotton/fire retardant coveralls, Structural/Weld, Pipefitters, and Mechanical Departments. All other departments may wear poly blends.
- Outerwear must be worn under coveralls, i.e. sweatshirts, hoodies, or jackets.
- Uniforms are to be clean, in good condition.
- Coveralls may not be altered in any way, including but not limited to cutting legs/sleeves, adding patches, or drawing/markings, except for the following employee expense alterations.
-
- Employee name/department on the left/right chest of the coverall may be embroidered.
- Hemlines may be adjusted.
- Buttons, bands, or Velcro may be sewn on the sleeve to make a cuffed sleeve.
- Steel toed shoes are always required in the yard.
- All outerwear must have the MGBW logo e.g., sweatshirts, jackets, hats, beanies etc.
- Jewelry worn to a minimum. No loose jewelry or accessories to be worn as they are safety hazards.
- Trade Supervisors may wear MGBW provided T-shirts, embroidered polos, embroidered button-down shirts, or coveralls.
- Hard hats and PPE are to be worn at all times during working hours. Hard hats and PPE may be removed during breaks.
Upon issue, company uniforms become the responsibility of the employee for maintenance and care. In the event a uniform needs repair or replacement, employees will be required to return the uniform in exchange for a replacement. All uniform exchanges may be done in the Purchasing department.
While normal wear and tear is expected, excessive damage or loss of company uniforms may result in disciplinary action.
Marine Group Boat Works may issue new uniforms periodically or require uniforms to be returned for special purposes, (e.g. logo change, corporate color change). Employees will be given notice of the exchange, and the company will provide suitable replacement uniforms.
Uniforms are the property of Marine Group Boat Works and are to be returned upon termination of employment.
Employees unable to wear certain uniform items due to medical reasons, must provide annual documentation from a certified medical professional to the HR Department. Once approved by the HR Department, authorization will be forwarded to the employee and employee’s Supervisor.
