From the Shipyard to the Boxing Ring

This week’s Employee Spotlight is on Sergio Ramos!

Sergio joined MGBW in May 2023 on the Loss Prevention team.  After seeing an opening in the Mechanics Department, he applied within to be a mechanic helper. Sergio is now primarily responsible for supporting the mechanics who operate the bore laser for shaft and stern tube alignments, making him an especially important asset to tasks involving propulsion systems. Notable vessels he has worked on include RSC3, RSC4 and LCU.

“He has an amazing attitude, is punctual and gets along with everyone,” said Mechanic Supervisor Jeremy Young. “It’s great to have a team player like him to help us get through our tasks.”

Sergio not only excels in his role within the Mechanics Department but is also making moves in the professional boxing realm. He recently announced his upcoming ring fight on Saturday, Feb. 22 in Playas De Rosarito, his second professional fight since November of last year. Sergio was first inspired to get into boxing through a close cousin who was undefeated within his league in Mexico (8-0) before the age of 18.

When asked how boxing has helped him in life, Sergio was quick to say boxing and training for competitions has taught him discipline, commitment, and an overall sense of responsibility, which is apparent in the work he puts in at MGBW each day.
