Best Moments of 2024 and E-News week of 1.6.25

Best of 2024:  We Asked and You Delivered!

As we look back on another wildly successful year, we’re grateful for each employee that took the time and effort to provide feedback on their most memorable MGBW moments of 2024. Whether it was project- or team-related, we received some insightful responses.

Here are a few highlights below:

Noteworthy Projects:  CID, JPB Flip, YRBM overhaul, Oh My!

Although there were countless noteworthy projects this year, a couple stood out amongst the crowd. The yacht CID arrived earlier this year defeated by Hurricane Norma that left La Paz flooded and wrecked. MGBW was selected to restore her to pre-storm conditions and as a result, CID received more than a million dollars worth of work including a brand new paint job leaving her sparkling and new. It was also a sight to be seen when we flipped two of the Jordan Patrol Boat hulls in the yard—milestones that Foreign Military Sales and the Royal Jordanian Navy showed up to see in person. Through our Gov Ops department, we landed the YRBM contract—a berthing barge in need of a complete overhaul. This impressive contract is worth more than $10 million dollars. When complete, YRBM will be able to provide temporary living and working accommodations for sailors and other military personnel whose ships are in port for maintenance or repairs.

Best Yard Lunch: BBQs Grilled by World Yacht

2024 was a year of food and hosted yard lunches with something for everyone! Crowd favorites included Mona Lisa Deli (Nino’s family’s restaurant) and Tacos Los Chuchys. BBQ grilled and served by World Yacht Refinishing got the most attention and attendance!

Coolest New Employee Perk: Anniversaries

This was the inaugural year of MGBW’s employee anniversary program, where we celebrated milestones to thank you for your hard work!  You not only enjoyed the private catered lunches upstairs with Todd and Eric, but the gifts were an added treat. Now that we have this year to learn from, next year’s anniversary program will be just as good, if not better!

Giving Back: To Employees!

We’re grateful to be able to give back to our local community. Charitable contributions from 2024 included donations to the Living Coast Discovery Center, Warrior Foundation, Forgotten Child’s Fund, South Bay Guidance Center, the Chula Vista Police Foundation and more. Even more popular this year was our Turkey Drive benefitting none other than our employees! This year, we gave away 200 turkeys to our team of 205 employees. Now that’s what we call a success!

Notable Customers:  Marine Group Global Services Clients

This year, MGBW also launched our newest sister company, Marine Group Global Services, a full-service yacht agency for superyachts coming to the West Coast. In the first six months of opening, we landed two notable clients, Launchpad and Wingman, vessels you might’ve seen attracting attention at the Broadway Pier. In addition to customs clearance and provisioning, Global Services also provides crew placement, Good Stew products and more.

Hard to Miss:  820-ton Lift Assembly

Last but not least, the new addition of our custom 820-ton variable lift was one of the most memorable projects this year.  The lift was shipped in parts from Italy and arrived on multiple truckloads. Headed up by the Facilities and Ways team, the lift assembly took 13 of our employees and multiple suppliers 7,800 hours to complete. Still in the testing phase, we’re excited for the opportunities this new lift will bring – a greater variety of vessels and more challenging and complex work.  But with a team like you, there’s nothing we can’t do!

Cheers to 2025!
